Well, it’s that time of year again for submissions to the CA State Fair. Terry’s been in the shop working hard on his latest creations. We’ll post pictures as soon as they’re ready. Stay tuned!
Terry and I would like to thank Carol Brewer and the ACAI Gallery at 7425 Winding Way, Fair Oaks, CA, for giving us the opportunity to participate in the Nature exhibit running from December 17, 2016, through January 13, 2017. We have met really great patrons and artists. If you happen to be in the area, please stop in and view the art. Thank you.
We really enjoyed the people and the ambiance at the Ironstone Vineyards on October 7 & 8, 2016. Thank you so much, Pat, for allowing us to participate!
Well, the 2016 EDC Fair is in the books. Terry received 3 Second place awards and 1 First place as well as a Best of Show!! Surprisingly, the little calabash bowl was the First place and Best of Show. You never know what to expect from the judges. Thank you so much, EDC!!
We entered 4 pieces this year in the El Dorado County Fair. Two were submitted today, June 8, 2016, in the “Crafts” division. One is a 12″ maple salad bowl titled “Planks” due to the raised pattern which resembles wood planks. The second piece is a 3″ black walnut calabash bowl with an Acoma-inspired design on the rim.
On June 9, 2016, two more pieces will be submitted in the Tech and Industrial division. One is a 6″ maple vessel with an Acoma-inspired design on the rim. The other piece is a warped, carved, dyed black walnut graft platter entitled, “From the Earth.” We’ll see how these pieces do in the local fair. Stay tuned!
We are pleased to let everyone know that all three of Terry’s submissions were selected for display at the California State Fair!!! He received a second place with his 16″ salad bowl, “Bolt Bowl,” a fourth place with his platter, “Bad Moon Rising,” and an honorable mention with his platter, “Sublime Equilibrium.” The last is a warped, carved, dyed black walnut graft platter. Honorable mentions are rarely displayed so this was a pleasant surprise!
Well, we entered multiple pieces in the California State Fair this year. We tried an entry into the “Art” division but it was rejected. We entered it into the “Crafts” division so we’ll see how that turns out. Below are the pieces in the State Fair.
We are very fortunate to have been chosen to participate in the opening of the Art Works Gallery in Cedar City, Utah. We consigned six pieces to the gallery which officially opens on June 24, 2016. Art Works is located at 16N 100 W, approximately a quarter mile from Southern Utah University. In addition to an amazing art program, Cedar City is home to one of the longest running Shakespeare Festivals in the US. Cedar City has a thriving art community and we feel this will be a great fit for our work. Below are the pieces for sale. If you’re in the area, please stop in and take a look at all of the great artists on display.
We wanted to extend a big THANK YOU to the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmichael for giving us the opportunity to display our “Blue Lagoon” platter. Though Terry didn’t ribbon, he really welcomed the opportunity to have his work seen and appreciated by a new audience.
Terry is hard at work on new designs for the new year. He will soon be entering the California State Fair as well as the El Dorado County Fair. We’re also looking forward to a new craft season. Stay tuned for photos of his latest designs!
Though it’s been a while since the last post, we haven’t been idle. Terry entered his “Blue Lagoon” platter in the Sacramento Fine Arts “Off the Wall” competition and was accepted! The exhibit runs through the end of March. Come out and see it if you’re in the area.
We’ve also been hard at work processing the silver maple and blue oak we picked up last year. All silver maple is off the back deck and we’re mid-way through the oak – whew! Can’t wait to start working on boxes and threaded lids!!
